The WN60 defense nest on the extreme eastern side of Omaha Beach was located on top of the cliffs of the Plateau du Calvados. During the D-Day landings, the 3/16th Infantry landed too far east and took shelter under the cliffs here before moving up the F-1 Cabourg draw in the center of this contemporary photo. AUTHOR

The 2./HKAR.1260 in WN76 at Pointe-du-Hoc deployed six 155mm Kanone 418(f). These were war-booty French 155mm GPF guns from World War I. They were originally deployed in open concrete “kettle” gun pits as seen here. Later in 1943, the battery troops erected standard camouflage umbrellas over the guns for concealment. ALAIN CHAZETTE
